Novalis Ubuntu Institute

Venue: Novalis Ubuntu Institute in Rosmead Ave, Wynberg, Cape Town, is a 15-minute drive from the city centre and a 10-minute walk from the train station.

Organisation: The Novalis Ubuntu Institute was founded by a group of people inspired by the Austrian scientist, educator and spiritual researcher, Dr Rudolf Steiner. It was established in 1982 as a vehicle for contributing to social and cultural change, and has a two-fold operation:
Firstly, it designs and implements holistic training programmes that benefit underprivileged sectors of South African society, such as the Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) support programme, the Beautiful Schools programme, the Ubuntu Spirit Leadership Training programme, the Youth Initiative programme and the Chance for Every Child programme. Secondly, it provides innovative holistic educational experiences through its own forums and networks and through the hiring out of its facilities.

Facilities: The Novalis Ubuntu Institute’s unusual dome-shaped building offers versatility. Leading from the assembly area are three small rooms, one medium-sized room, a kitchen, cafe area and tea garden. The venue is ideal for workshops, training courses, seminars, talks, board meetings, AGMs, conferences, concerts and theatre performances.

  • The main assembly space, domed and lit with a skylight, can accommodate 200 people seated in theatre style, 100 seated in circles and 125 seated at tables. At one end of this space is a deep, raised stage.
  • The medium size room holds 65 people seated in theatre style, 45 seated in a circle and 24 seated at a board room table. This room has a small, raised stage area.
  • The three small rooms each hold 30 people seated theatre style, 22 seated in a circle and 16 seated at a board room table. Two of these rooms lead off the raised stage area and can serve as green rooms for concerts and theatre productions.
  • Novalis catering offers Cape home-style meals or off-site catering, depending on your needs. Self catering is also an option.
  • Additional facilities include wheelchair access, wireless and cable ADSL service, flipchart, data projector, PA system, piano, stage lighting and secure parking with the option of a car guard for larger events.
